Home Guard

The second mission of Virginia Oath Keepers is the Home Guard. A number of members developed this mission to educate our membership on dealing with unforeseen events, either natural or man-made. VAOK Home Guard is designed to provide continuous training to ensure our preparedness and the ability to support each other, our families, and our communities, if necessary.

The Home Guard training program was developed by incorporating the relevant expertise and experience of our members to defend, protect, and survive any event that requires these skills. In an outreach initiative through the chapters, we brought together members with the knowledge to establish the framework for the training program.

One of the first steps in the training process was to standardize the urban and wilderness survival skills knowledge base for every chapter in the Commonwealth. Important elements of the training include basic medical skills – with an understanding of herbal medication – and communications, especially ham radio. The training also reinforces knowledge and understanding of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

VAOK presents this and more each quarter at statewide training events. These events build a deeper knowledge of the subjects and builds friendships with other members from different regions of the Commonwealth.

We have created a series of competency levels in each training area. As members expand their knowledge, they participate in the “Tab” program, in which they become eligible to receive and wear a tab for the skills they have mastered. Tabs are currently awarded for Wilderness Survival, Medical knowledge, Communications, Disaster Preparedness, Tracking, and Specialist.

Parallel activities that support the Home Guard include the VAOK Amateur “Ham” Radio Club. Members of the VAOK-ARC participate in the Amateur Radio Rely League (ARRL) Field Days and AmRON T-Rex exercises in addition to internal VAOK preparedness activities.

The VAOK Tracking Club meets every other month to practice the lost art of tracking animals and people in the wilderness or urban environment. Both of these groups participate in statewide events open to all member of the VAOK.

Reach, Teach & Inspire

The first mission of Virginia Oath Keepers is to Reach, Teach and Inspire (RTI) those who have taken an oath to the Constitution. It is our job to remind people that they have pledged their lives and sacred honor to a document that binds government with the chains of individual freedom...

Non-Partisan Political Action

The third mission is similar to the first mission; only it is directed at lawmakers, particularly on the local and state level. We must remind them that they serve us, that they took an oath to the Constitution and that their actions should be restricted to the powers they are allowed in both our national and state Constitutions...
